Create a 1940’s Bodice with Haslam

All of the Haslam patterns, from 1920's through the 1950's, start with a basic "Haslam" sloper and their proprietary double sided ruler. Mela will lead you through the process of creating the paper pattern sloper Haslam used in the 1940's. Everyone will be working with the same set of measurements in order to understand the process in the time allotted. Where to locate reproduction Haslam pattern books will be discussed.

Class focuses on learning the basics on how to take measurements from an unlined garment without taking it apart or damaging it. Students will learn several different methods that Mackenzie uses when taking measurements from historic garments. Students will then spend time taking measurements from the garment they brought to class and then drafting a basic pattern from their measurements. If time permits, then correcting the pattern and adding seam allowance. Digital camera or phone can aid in taking measurements.
